Physical Therapy

Physical therapy (PT)* utilizes procedures designed to assist an individual to reach their highest level of motor functioning and mobility. Physical therapists examine an individual’s physical state and develop a plan using treatment techniques to promote improved motion, reduced pain, restored function, and prevent disability.

Physical therapy training typically includes:

  • Assessing and treating the areas of muscle strength and tone
  • Providing gait training
  • Providing mobility and transfer training
  • Identifying equipment needs
  • Instructing individuals on the use of equipment

In addition, Physical Therapists work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles. Physical therapies may include exercise, functional training, manual therapy techniques, and assistive and adaptive devices.

Physical Therapists may spend sessions out in the community using real life situations to accomplish certain goals.

*Each therapist providing PT and/or PTA services will be licensed and certified by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts or licensure required by any other state contracting for these services. Staff may provide physical therapy services as long as a licensed PT supervises them. Doctor’s orders are required for this service.
