Our History

Minds Matter, llc began when two families couldn’t find an agency to help their loved ones return home. They approached Janet Williams, PhD, because, “they heard she knew something about brain injury.” Janet agreed to help. She soon learned she needed to know as much about community resources and relationships as she did about brain injury. Janet’s effort to design a customized system of supports and services – directed and controlled by the consumer and his/her family – led to the launch of Minds Matter, llc.

Our Philosophy

Minds Matter, llc believes that people with brain injuries and their families are the experts in their own life. All of our rehabilitation plans and decisions are made with the person at the center of the process. Our teams then collaborate with the person and chosen family to create meaningful connections in their community. Our functional rehabilitation approach is designed to give control back to the person by listening, understanding and responding so people can live their life, their way. Our model has impacted the lives of thousands of consumers, earned international recognition and is able to be replicated in communities across the globe.

communityworks, inc. is the parent company to Minds Matter, llc. It helps create effective models that promote consumer-driven, community-based rehabilitation and care. The company provides training, consulting, and advocacy to individuals and organizations that wish to promote independent living solutions.
